Flirt is a Sea Sprite 23, the only Sea Sprite boat designed by Alberg and not Ludders. Based on his earlier Alberg 22, it is one of his early boats and the precursor to many of his later boats, including most of the Cape Dory line. While quite a few will claim that Alberg’s designs are not “exciting” that is much of their point. They are safe and Sea Kindly boats that will get where you want to go, eventually.
As there is a “family” connection between the 23 and the Cape Dory line, I decided to take a chance on buying a part from a CD for Flirt. Yesterday I mentioned buying a Wilcox Crittenden steaming light, now I bought an aluminum mast mount for it.
It sits about spreader height and not only holds the steaming light, but is also a deck light, with a spot on the bottom focused downwards toward the fore deck. Not cheap, but at roughly $60 with shipping from Texas to NJ for what amounts to a rather rare piece of equipment, I am not complaining. I will clean it all up, add an LED spot light to it, and mount it to the mast after I strip that down and clean it up.
