good-bye to a dear friend

While we have had some deaths in the family this year, this post is not about them (they deserve better than to be mentioned here). Instead I am talking my trusty deWalt Orbital Sander. This bright yellow tool has seen me sand down three cars to bare metal (really two, but I did one twice) and got most of the way through sanding down Flirt before it just got too gummed up to finally build up any speed. I had an inkling it was starting to go this summer when I left it in the hot sun and when I went to use it, the bearings made some truly terrible noises until it cooled.

The Orbital is dead.. long live the orbital.

Yes, I already bought a new one, this one is a variable speed model, and yes it is by deWalt so it should last me another 10 years (or more if I do not sand any more boat bottoms down)

A long time sailor who has been away from the water for too long, I am working hard to bring an old and abused boat back to life. When not working on my boat, I can often be found working as a Stage Hand in Atlantic City or just out and about on my Mountain Bike. I really come off as a quiet and boring person when people first meet me.
